This blog post simply lists the answers to the earlier Config VM from a few days ago. As with all the Config Museum pieces, the goal is to give you a straightforward set of lab requirements: no guile, no tricks, just a chance to exercise. This exercise focuses on Frame Relay, point-to-point subinterface configuration, purposefully leaving out the IP addresses. Some related links:

Answers: Configuring Local DLCIs

Many people get their heads turned upside down when thinking about Frame Relay global DLCIs. So let me net out the big ideas ever so briefly:

  • The problem statement said: “The figure shows global DLCIs”.
  • When configuring a router, the numbers on a router are always the local DLCIs used on that router
  • To configure this lab, you need to derive the local DLCIs based on the global DLCIs.

Knowing that this part of the exercise may cause some problems, I picked a lab topology and DLCI values that match an earlier Frame Relay DLCI exercise. I’ve started creating these exercises as a way to help people over the confusion with Frame Relay DLCIs. So, if you think you’re unclear on the DLCIs to use, go to these links:

The following two figures repeat the figure for this lab, with global DLCIs shown, and a similar figure with the Local DLCIs.

Clock Rate or Not

The lab also did not give enough information for you to know whether you needed to configure clock rate on the serial interfaces. The core goal of the lab was to give you enough information so that you would think about whether you needed it, and pick one or the other option.

For our purposes, I will assume all three of the routers shown in Figure 1 have DCE cables connected, and that they need to configure the clock rate.
